What is the rest of the room like?

If you could pull one pair free of the walls and give them a shove around until you liked it, my guess is that you'd forget about surround sound and listen via them to a lot of music.

I was kidding about the surround..they are in my garage..i,m going to bring a pair in the house when i get some time...

I have the mounting brackets, but never bolted them down to anything. Unbolted, they are not very usefull. Easy enough to bolt to a makeshift 'sled' (board) of course.
If an option... I vote for the hanging option as well, since you have the plates. Should be 'easy'. You might be able to get away with 2 chains, one to each side of a plate to stabilize the X, then can add mass to the front lip of the horns (if holes present) to balance the Y.

Of course, acknowledging that not everyone likes the industrial 'giant horns hanging from chains' look. :-)
